Saudi Arabia, Jordan sign 15 pacts

AMMAN – Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman and King Abdullah of Jordan oversaw the signing of over 15 agreements, memoranda of understanding, executive programs and contracts here on Monday.
A draft agreement was signed in the field of environmental protection, while others included a draft executive program in social affairs, an executive program in the field of culture, a draft agreement for encouraging and protecting mutual investments, a draft agreement for a SR393.75 million loan for reconstructing and rehabilitating the Amman-Aqaba desert road.
Draft MoUs were signed in postal services for Haj and Umrah pilgrims and in the fields of health and housing.
A draft contract was signed for research and development in the mining of uranium in Central Jordan Region, while others included a draft MoU for studying the economic feasibility of constructing two nuclear reactors in Jordan for the production of electricity and desalination, contract for the establishment of a Saudi-Jordanian Investment Company to carry out investments in Jordan with a magnitude of $3b, and a draft memorandum of understanding and cooperation in the field of news between Saudi Press Agency and Jordanian News Agency.
Several other agreements and MoUs were signed for the private sector. They included a treatment and medical rehabilitation city in Riyadh, a Saudi-Jordanian company in the field of developing medical services, and Al-Reesha Project for developing, building and operating a 50-megawatt solar energy plant at the eastern borders of Jordan.
Earlier King Salman arrived in Jordan to head the Saudi delegation to the 28th Arab Summit starting on Wednesday.
The King was received by King Abdullah of Jordan in a lavish welcome ceremony.
Pact to set up $2 million Saudi-Jordanian joint venture
King Salman and King Abdullah of Jordan held official talks on Monday evening at Al-Husseiniah Palace.
They reviewed the close brotherly ties between the two countries and peoples and the means to develop and strengthen them in different fields. They also discussed the latest regional and international developments.
Following the talks, the Jordanian monarch hosted a dinner banquet in honor of King Salman.
Meanwhile, the Saudi-Jordanian Business Council held a joint meeting in Amman in the presence of the members of the Council from both countries.
The Saudi side was headed by Dr. Hamdan Bin Abdullah Al-Samrain, chairman of the Council of Saudi Chambers, while the Jordanian side by the Chairman of the Jordanian Chamber of Commerce Nael Al-Kabariti.
During the meeting the two sides emphasized the importance of looking for investment opportunities available in the two countries and get acquainted with the prevailing investment climate, incentives, opportunities and potentials.
They called for holding more meetings between businessmen and investors in the two countries. They recommended organizing an annual investment meeting to be accompanied by an exhibition. They called for more cooperation in the fields of transport, health and education.
During the meeting, the two sides agreed on forming specialist working committees in each sector including commerce, investment, industry, agriculture, services and overcoming and solving obstacles. The committees will comprise two people from each side. These committees will lay down long-term work strategies for the Council.
The two sides agreed to set up a Saudi-Jordanian joint venture with a capital of $1 million from each side.
