JEDDAH — The people of Al-Hirazat District have been demanding basic necessities from the municipality but allegedly are being ignored. Jeddah Municipality employee Abdulmajeed Al-Batati said the municipality held its second meeting with the general public in its main location in Bait Al-Balad. "The meeting was attended by several members of the community, National Water Company Head of Projects Marwan Al-Jehani and myself as the head of the meeting. The general public submitted over 60 paperwork applications to the municipality demanding basic necessities such as street lighting and electricity," said Al-Batati. He added Al-Hirazat District has an area of 60 million sq. meters. "The general public demanded to reprimand the water company for dumping sewage waste into the sea. Al-Rabwa District north of Jeddah demanded from the municipality to transfer warehouses of construction material outside of the district," said Al-Batati. He also said the municipality presented some of its latest projects. "It is our duty to listen to the voices and opinions of the general public. The city council works with the municipality in monitoring the projects and implementing them. The council also conducts surveys and meets the general public by present in the field every now and then," said Al-Batati. He added the council delivers the concerns of the general public to the ministers and government officials. "The council and the municipality will do their best to comply with the demands of the general public. The council is not an executive body, it only gathers what the general public demands and submits these demands in reports to higher authorities," said Al-Batati.
