A high-level delegation of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), led by Abdullah Al-Alim, assistant secretary general and special representative of the OIC secretary general on Jammu and Kashmir, left for Pakistan and Azad Kashmir Sunday. Senior officials of the OIC Secretariat and representatives of the Islamic Development Bank (IDB), Islamic Solidarity Fund (ISF) and Islamic Education, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) are also among the delegates. During the visit, the team will meet the leadership and senior government officials in Islamabad and Muzaffarabad. The delegation will also visit the Line of Control (LoC) and meet with the True Representatives of the Kashmiri People. The team will return on May 12. In connection with the upcoming visit, the Consul General of Pakistan, Shehryar Akbar Khan, called on Al-Alim recently. Akbar said the visit demonstrates OIC's continued support and commitment to the Kashmir cause. He thanked the OIC for supporting the Kashmiris in their legitimate struggle for their right to self-determination. The organisation has also established a standing mechanism of IPHRC to monitor the human rights situation in the Indian-occupied Kashmir, the Pakistan consulate press release said. The Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission (IPHRC) is an expert body with advisory capacity established by the OIC as the principal organ working independently in the area of human rights. — SG
