Maj. Muhammad Al-Hammadi, spokesman for the Civil Defense in Riyadh Province, said the fire started in a room on the third floor of the 293rd Girls' Primary School in Al-Muhammadia District. No casualties were reported. Thick smoke billowed from the building, which was immediately evacuated. The control center of the Civil Defense received a report on the fire at 6.08 a.m. Thursday. Civil Defense teams quickly dispatched to the scene extinguished the fire. Investigations are under way to determine the cause of the fire. According to Maj. Al-Hammadi, the immediate and appropriate action by the school's women teachers and administrators played a big role in preventing any injuries among the students. The girls were evacuated safely without incident because the school authorities followed the correct procedures.
