Kentucky holds off North Carolina

The freshman Anthony Davis blocked John Henson's shot in the final seconds and Doron Lamb scored 12 of his 14 points in the second half as No. 1 Kentucky held on to beat No. 5 North Carolina, 73-72, Saturday, extending the Wildcats' home winning streak to 39 games in Lexington.
The freshman Michael Kidd-Gilchrist had 17 points and 11 rebounds for Kentucky (8-0).
Reggie Bullock hit a 3-pointer for North Carolina (6-2) to cut the lead to 73-72 with 48 seconds left. After Marquis Teague missed the front end of a one-and-one, Davis blocked Henson's shot and grabbed the rebound, and the Wildcats ran out the clock.
Tyler Zeller and Harrison Barnes scored 14 points apiece for the Tar Heels, who led by as many as 6 in the second half.
UConn 75, Arkansas 62: The freshman Ryan Boatright had 23 points and 6 assists for No. 8 Connecticut (7-1) at Hartford in the Big East-SEC challenge. B. J. Young scored 28 points for Arkansas (5-2).
Marquette 61, Wisconsin 54: Darius Johnson-Odom scored 17 points and Todd Mayo 14 as No. 16 Marquette (7-0) ended No. 9 Wisconsin's 23-game home winning streak. Mayo had a critical late layup and a game-clinching dunk after the Badgers (6-2) had cut a 9-point deficit to 3 points.
Xavier 66, Purdue 63: Tu Holloway scored 21 points for No. 11 Xavier (6-0), which rallied from a 19-point deficit at home.
Michigan 76, Iowa State 66: Tim Hardaway Jr. scored 19 points and Jordan Morgan 16 to help No. 14 Michigan (6-2) at home.
Ohio St. 64, Texas-Pan Am 35: Evan Ravenel scored a career-high 11 points in place of Jared Sullinger as No. 2 Ohio State (8-0) beat visiting Texas-Pan American to give Coach Thad Matta his 300th career win.
Sullinger had back spasms during the Buckeyes' win over third-ranked Duke Tuesday.
Kansas 70, South Florida 42: Tyshawn Taylor had 24 points at home for No. 15 Kansas (5-2).
Pittsburgh 61, Tennessee 56: John Johnson, who scored 8 points, converted a 3-point play with two seconds left to seal a road victory for No. 17 Pittsburgh (7-1) in the Big East-SEC Challenge.
In other games it was: Illinois 82, Gonzaga 75; Mississippi State 75, West Virginia 62; LSU 55, Rutgers 50; Georgetown 84, NJIT 44; Villanova 73, Penn 65.
