Ayoon Wa Azan (A Disgrace to American Politics)
Published in AL HAYAT on 10 - 02 - 2012

President Barack Obama hates Benjamin Netanyahu, and agrees with President Nicolas Sarkozy that the Israeli Prime Minister is a professional charlatan who does not want peace. However, this did not stop the U.S. president from pleading with Netanyahu last year to mediate between him and the U.S. Congress not to vote to halt aid to the Palestinian National Authority.
It is a disgrace to American politics that the President would need a foreign delinquent leader to mediate with the Congress, because he has more power there than the President of the country, owing to the influence wielded by the Israel lobby – the same lobby which bought members of Congress to betray the interests of their country in return for funding their election campaigns.
Disgrace this year was epitomized by a video released by the Obama's supporters last month, entitled “America and Israel, an Unbreakable Bond”. In the video, Obama claims that he is the most pro-Israel American President in history, and quotes Shimon Peres, Netanyahu and Ehud Barak testifying to his support for Israel, claiming that Israel's right to exist is a U.S. priority, as well as its right to defend itself against any external threat (Iran for example?)
The video mentions nothing about the Palestinians' right in their own country.
President Obama then does not content himself with words, and tries to match them instead with deeds. Recently, he appointed Jack Lew, an ultraorthodox American Jew, as the White House Chief of Staff. Lew is the first Jew to occupy this post, and his appointment was welcomed by all Likudnik groups.
The President also still retains Dennis Ross as an adviser on Middle Eastern affairs, although Ross is a Likudnik who supports Israel at the expense of Palestinian rights, nay even at the expense of American interests. If the President wanted a fair and well-informed adviser who can advance the cause of peace then there are many such people, of whom I would nominate Daniel Kurtz or Robert Malley, who are both Jewish Americans by the way.
Barack Obama has caved in to the Israel lobby and the neocons, and has said and done everything that he could to win them over. Yet he failed, as they have continued to attack him constantly so that his surrender would be absolute.
In contrast to Obama's claim that he is the most pro-Israel U.S. President in history, a Likudnik website accused him of self-delusion, and said (literally) that he is the most “anti-Israel president in the history of America's relationship with that staunch Middle Eastern ally”. Another article that had the same gist had the title “Answering Obama's Israel Lies”.
I say that this ally is a fascist ally led by gangs of war criminals, not political parties.
Moreover, the Likudnik writer Jonah Goldberg claimed that Obama is a socialist who wants to nationalize two auto companies, and partially nationalize healthcare, while imposing guardianship over Wall Street.
As regards the Likudnik magazine The National Review, it asked, “Obama: Incompetent or Evil?” The article then went on to explain that some Republicans see him as incompetent while others see him as evil, and tackled his dealings with Israel, as though America has no other interests except serving Israel, so that it can continue occupation, murder and destruction. I ask the author of that article: Did you stop beating your wife? Because this question is similar to how he made his readers choose between incompetence and evil.
I also read in the gang's websites an article entitled “The Obama- [Muslim] Brotherhood Love Affair Heats Up”, only because the Deputy Secretary of State William Burns visited the headquarters of the Muslim Brotherhood's party in Cairo. I also read another piece entitled “Why Obama Gave Away the Middle East”, as though the Americans owned it in the first place. The article claims that Islamists are seizing power in the Middle East under the cover of the Arab spring, and that President Obama is enabling this transformation.
President Obama is intelligent as all pundits agree, and he must no doubt follow what the supporters of Israel say about him, while he sells himself to the state of crime and racism. But he wants to win a second term, and I think he will most likely do so as long as his Republican rivals are the likes of Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich. If Obama wins, he will be free of the shackles of the lobby and the neocons, and act in a manner that will prove their fears about him true.
