Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al-Zayani, Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Secretary General, called on the states and organizations of the international community to take decisive and urgent measures to put an end of the killings and inhumane acts carried out by the Syrian regime, stressing the need to stand steadfast at the side of Syrian people and help them to get out of this tragic situation. He also called on the Syrian opposition to unite for representing all segments of their people. In his speech in front of the 2nd Conference of the Friends of the Syrian people in Istanbul, the GCC Secretary General said that the GCC member countries hope that the Syrian government would respond to Arab and international efforts to stop the bloodshed in Syria. He added that the GCC Member States welcomed and supported the mission of Kofi Annan, U.N.-Arab League joint envoy joint, in order to find a solution to the Syrian crisis.
