AlQa'dah 3, 1432, Oct 1, 2011, SPA - The U.N. Security Council committee on admission of new members held its first meeting on the Palestinian application for full United Nations membership on Friday and is expected to issue its first report to the Council in two weeks. Lebanon's ambassador, Nawaf Salam, who holds the Council's presidency for September told reporters that the Committee will meet again next week before preparing its first report to the Council. The report will be presented to Nigeria's ambassador, Joy Ogwu, who assumes the Council Presidency for October. She will then distribute to the 14 other Council members for discussion. To attain full membership of the U.N., the Security Council must first vote to recommend that the 193-nation General Assembly accept a membership application. The Palestinians' will need to secure nine votes in support of its bid in the Council and no veto from any of the five permanent members. The U.S. has said it will veto the application.
