Residents of Mexico's Baja peninsula faced tropical storm warnings Friday as a weakened hurricane Dora continued moving north, dpa reported. The storm had been downgraded into a category 1 hurricane with sustained winds of 140 kilometres per hour and was expected to continue to weaken over the next several days, the US National Hurricane Centre in Miami said. A day earlier, it had been a major hurricane of category 4 on afive-level scale. Coastal authorities in central Mexico have issued warnings of high waves and heavy rain. In southern Mexico and neighbouring Guatemala, heavy rains attributed to the storm have caused landslides and flooding.
