They have been battling for ancestral lands and a share of profits from the thousands of tourists who come to see the Pacific Island's famed statues of giant heads, according to AP. A Rapa Nui clan's claims to the property where the new, $800-a-night Hangaroa Eco Village & Spa was built has support from international human rights agencies. It also poses legal and political dilemmas for a Chilean government already criticized for its treatment of indigenous people on the mainland. Activists say police on Sunday hauled off the last of about 50 squatters after they had tied themselves down in the lobby.
