Four mountaineers have gone missing in Nepal's Dhaulagiri region, dpa cited the country's National News Agency RSS as reporting Wednesday. They went missing at a base camp of Mount Dhaulagiri, in the central part of the Himalayan range. The missing were identified as three Japanese citizens and a Nepalese Sherpa guide. District police in Myagdi district, where Dhaulagiri is located, said a different group of two Japanese and a Nepalese were rescued and airlifted to the capital Kathmandu late Wednesday. Dhaulagiri, at 8,167 meters, is the seventh highest mountain in the world. The district police station in Myagdi dispatched a team of 12 policemen for rescue work early Thursday. Details about the incident were unclear as the location is two days walk from the district headquarter. Six different groups of Japanese, Spanish, French and Korean mountaineers headed toward the Dhaulagiri region last week. Rescue helicopters will continue the search for the missing on Thursday.
