Aluminium Bahrain 'Alba' and Sapa have signed a three-year agreement to supply a significant quantity of extrusion billets to Sapa Profiles group in Europe. The deal was a result of Alba and Sapa working closely together since the end of 2009 to develop a strong business relationship to supply extrusion ingots, according to a report published today by Gulf Daily News. Alba was officially selected as one of the key suppliers for Sapa's global strategic sourcing programme. Sapa is the global leader in its field of operation in the core areas of extruded profiles, building and heat transfer systems. Sapa, which currently operates around 45 plants in Europe, North America and Asia, is regarded as the largest extruder in the world, with a global capacity of more than 900,000 metric tonnes per annum. "We are delighted to have been selected as part of Sapa's strategic sourcing programme," said Alba chief executive officer Laurent Schmitt. Alba continues to be a key player in the aluminium industry and today operates the world's fourth largest single site smelter with a capacity of 870,000 tonnes per annum. Alba's state-of-the-art Casthouse-Three is one of the largest extrusion billet facilities in the world with a capacity of more than 350,000 metric tonnes annually.
