The number of global cases of the new influenza A(H1N1) virus climbed to over 8,700 worldwide on Monday, the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) reported. The pan-European agency tallied 8,732 global cases including 263 in Europe. Over the weekend the number of cases in Britain rose to 101. That is just two behind Spain, which has, to date, reported the highest number of confirmed cases among the 16 countries in Europe with confirmed cases. France and Germany each had 14 cases. The United States reported 4,714 cases.
