The U.S. Senate will include President Barack Obama's request for up to $100 billion for the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in its bill to fund the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan, Senator Judd Gregg (Republican from New Hampshire) said Wednesday. Obama asked Congress for the assistance to help poor countries handle the global economic downturn. He also wants to increase the U.S. contribution to the IMF by $8 billion and is asking for support of the IMF's planned sale of 3,685 kilograms of gold. Gregg serves on the Senate Appropriations Committee, which is expected to vote on the requests Thursday as part of legislation widely expected to be approved.
