General Mufti of the Kingdom addresses KSU Seminar
Published in Saudi Press Agency on 04 - 05 - 2009

The General Mufti of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and head of the Commission of the Senior Ulema (Islamic Scholars) Sheikh Abdulaziz Al Al-sheikh underlined Monday the important role of the universities, schools and institutes as regards confronting the phenomenon of blackmailing the girls.
Speaking at a Seminar organized by the Law Club at the faculty of systems and political science of King Saud University, Al Al-sheikh said Islam has honored women and prevented them from traveling without being accompanied by their legal guardians.
"Islam has also prohibited the loneliness of the women without being accompanied by their legal guardians," he noted.
Al Al-sheikh urged the females who might be subjected to any form of blackmailing to resist this trend and to inform the concerned authorities.
He warned against telephone contacts with unknown persons.
Al Al-sheikh said the Muslims either male or female, should adhere to the teachings of Islam.
He noted that the legal marriage is the right way of protecting the youth from committing sins.
"All should cooperate to protect the Islamic values," he said.
Al Alsheikh slammed those who advocate for demoralization of the Muslim women.” They want the women to establish relations with any one and to walk without veils," he said, adding that such calls will pave the way for evil and will undermine the values and morals".
Al Al-sheikh said the universities should shoulder their responsibility as regards promotion of virtues and prevention of vice.
He noted that some people wrongly think that promotion of virtues and prevention of vice is confined to punishing people but actually it is a reform process and guidance for the people to opt for the right direction.
He underlined the important role which could be played by members of the academic staff and teachers as regards directing the students to the proper path.
The seminar was opened by the Rector of King Saud University Dr Abdullah Al-Othman.
He urged the educational institutions to positively react with the society and not to remain isolated from the problems of the society, noting that their role should surpass the academic domain.
Dr Al-Othman slammed the phenomenon of blackmailing girls and said it does not conform with the values of the Saudi society.
The Seminar was attended by a number of officials, members of the academic staff and students.
