Vela International Marine Limited's Saiph Star, the last vessel of six very large crude carriers (VLCC) ordered from Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering, entered recently service after a naming ceremony at the South Korean shipyard, which was presided over by Majid Y. Al-Mugla, Saudi Aramco's executive director of Project Management. More than 50 guests attended the ceremony. They included Daewoo Shipbuilding senior executive vice president and chief production officer W.K. Ki; senior executive vice president of Ship Business J. Ko; Saud A. Bukhari, Vela's Technical and Support Department manager; Dr. Majid A. Al-Sani, Vela's Tanker Construction manager; and Khalid Y. Alhammad, Project Site manager. Though this project is completed, more VLCCs are in the plans. Vela this year will begin a project for four more VLCCs with Daewoo. Delivery is scheduled for 2010, according to a latest report of Saudi Aramco's web-site. --MORE
