The parents of missing British girl Madeleine McCann vowed Thursday that they would "never give up" the search for their daughter who they believe is still alive, according to dpa. In a fresh media offensive on the eve of the first anniversary of Madeleine's disappearance on May 3 last year, Kate and Gerry McCann issued a new hotline number for information relating to the case. Madeleine, who has her fifth birthday later this month, disappeared from her bedroom in a holiday apartment in Praia da Luz, on the Algarve in Portugal, while her parents were dining in a nearby Tapas bar. The case has aroused worldwide interest, fuelled by a high-profile media campaign launched by the McCann's. But several alleged sightings of the blonde toddler in various European and North African countries proved to be false alarms, and no trace has been found of Madeleine. The parents said their message was that Madeleine was still missing, and that she had been the victim of a "horrific crime" by someone who was still "out there." They would be letting Madeleine down if they gave up the hope of finding her. As long as there was no evidence of harm being done to Madeleine, they would not give up. The McCann's, who have been named official suspects by Portuguese police, deny any involvement in Madeleine's disappearance. The investigation into the case is continuing.
