Under the patronage of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, a conference was organized here on "Water Desalination in Arab Countries in addition to an exhibition on "Water Desalination Equipment" from April 20-23, 2008. The conference was organized by Exicon Company for international exhibitions and conferences in cooperation with the Ministry of Water And Electricity and the Saline Water Conversion Corporation. The conference was supported by the Commission of Electricity and Dual Production Organization, the department of desalination engineering at the Saudi Engineers Association, the Water And Electricity Company and the International Desalination Association (IDA) as well as the Society of Water Sciences and Technology in the Gulf States. More than 30 speakers addressed the conference's five sessions. The topics of the conference included: studies, researches and development; designs, operation styles; maintenance systems and rehabilitation; environmental impact; and desalination economies; while the conference's workshops discussed osmosis, materials of desalination stations, the impact of desalination on the environment and hybrid systems for production of energy and water desalination. --MORE
