United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon expressed disappointment on the unproductively in alleviating the crisis in Sudan's Darfur region in his Wednesday report and urged for the full deployment of the African-Union and UN hybrid operation in Darfur (UNAMID) in the region. “I am extremely disappointed at the lack of progress on all fronts in the efforts to address the situation in Darfur,” Ban wrote. Ban also expressed concern on the slow deployment of UNAMID on the border violence between Chad and Sudan. Ban said the AU-UN force is under-staffed and lacking in helicopters, vehicles, and in other logistics that would allow it to make progress on the ground. Only 9,000 out of the 26,000 troops needed for deployment are on the ground. Ban said border violence between Chad and Sudan is breaching the Ceasefire Agreement and said it is “a deeply troubling sign that the violence and instability will continue, to the detriment of the civilian populations on both sides of the border.”
