Mexican President Felipe Calderon was due to visit the United States on Sunday to discuss migration issues, a statement from the presidential office said Saturday, according to DPA. He was due to visit a number of US cities, including New York, Los Angeles and Chicago. Calderon was to meet Mexican leaders in the US, the statement said. He was also planning talks with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon in New York, while he had no plans to meet with members of the US administration, it was said. Every year some 500,000 Mexicans cross the border into the United States without documents. The 11 million Mexicans living in the US transfer around 23 billion dollars to their families in Mexico each year. The Mexican government wants Washington to grant the illegal immigrants minimal rights through an agreement. Calderon's visit had originally been planned for September, but had to be delayed due to a hurricane hitting the south of Mexico.
