The Pakistani government has allowed import of 0.5 million short staple cotton bales from India through the land route of Wagah. Pakistan's cotton mills have capacity of 16 million bales per annum, Special Secretary to Finance Ministry Dr. Ashfaq Hassan Khan told the reporters. He said that the total cotton production in Pakistan is about 12 to 13 million bales. "We have to import the remaining cotton from other countries," he said adding that government decided to allow import of 0.5 million short staple cotton."
