Tourist arrivals in Malaysia increased by 24.8 per cent to 10,690,426 people in the first six months of this year compared with 8,564,221 over the corresponding period in 2006, the DPA quoted government sources as saying Thursday. Deputy minster of tourism Donald Lim Siang Chai told members of parliament that the increase was largely due to aggressive promotions inside and outside the country, adding that visitors from neighbouring Singapore topped the list of tourists. "Singaporeans topped the list with the most number at 5,287,290 followed by Indonesians at 910,388," Lim was quoted as saying by the official Bernama news agency. He said the number of tourists from China jumped more than 80 per cent to 330,869 people in the corresponding months.
