Afghan President Hamid Karzai phoned President General Pervez Musharraf Friday night and invited him to attend the closing session of the Joint Peace Jirga in Kabul, said an official statement. Karzai said that Musharraf's personal participation would be a source of support and encouragement for the Jirga process. President Musharraf agreed in principle to address the closing session of the Joint Peace Jirga on Saturday. Meanwhile, the United States immediately welcomed Musharraf's decision to attend Pak-Afghan Joint Jirga. Musharraf was originally due to attend the opening of the Jirga on Thursday, but withdrew, citing important engagements in Islamabad. Instead, Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz had attended the opening session of the ongoing three-day Jirga.
