Higher Education Commission (HEC) Chairman Dr Attaur Rahman left for China on Sunday to discuss with Chinese authorities establishment of $600 million Pak-China University of Engineering, Science and Technology in Pakistan, said an official statement. During the visit, Rahman, who is heading a delegation, will hold meetings with the Chinese Education Minister as well as the rectors and senior officials of the universities consortium. The delegation will also participate in the graduating ceremony of PhD scholars of the HEC in Tsinghua University, Beijing. The Pak-China University will have a total strength of 5,000 students with 350 PhD level faculty members. The Chinese faculty will comprise 25-30 percent of the total faculty. The rector, senior faculty members and some administrative staff would come from China. The government of Pakistan will provide all funding for the university and the Chinese consortium universities will provide technical support and expertise for the project. The project will be completed in eight years.
