A chain collision on the trans Sumatra highway in Bakauheni village, South Lampung, on Thursday involving at least nine trucks, two passenger cars and three motorcycles, had killed two people. The dead were Silaban (40), truck driver of North Sumatra, and Daniel (8) also from the province. Four others were seriously injured, and eight sustained minor injuries, ANTARA reported. With regard to the cause of the accident, traffic police said first a truck was speeding from Bandarlampung to Bakauheni. On seeing a row of vehicles very slowly moving in front, the driver tried to slow down his vehicle, but failed to do so because the brakes were not functioning, and bumping against the car in front of him cannot be avoided. As the result of the impact, the truck hit from behind and carrying banana, lost control and plunged into a ravine. "The truck then bumped into the next car which also carried an 8-year old kid," the police said. For his injuried, the kid was later rushed to the nearest hospital in Bandarlampung. The five victims consisted two grownups Sarno, Kijang driver, and Mayson Sihombing (26), assistant to the driver of a big truck. The three other victims were Ari (10), Iwan (12) and Sahrudin (15) from Bungut, Bakauheni, South Lampung.
