SULEIMAN AWAD, THE SPOKESMAN FOR THE EGYPTIAN PRESIDENCY, SAID THE TALKS OF THE CUSTODIAN OF THE TWO HOLY MOSQUES KING ABDULLAH BIN ABDULAZIZ WITH EGYPTIAN PRESIDENT HOSNI MUBARAK HAD COVERED THE SITUATION IN THE MIDDLE EAST. ADDRESSING A PRESS CONFERENCE HERE LAST NIGHT, AWAD SAID PRESIDENT MUBARAK BRIEFED KING ABDULLAH ON THE OUTCOME OF THE QUARTET SUMMIT, HELD HERE ON MONDAY. HE POINTED OUT THAT THE TWO LEADERS HAVE AGREED THAT THE DEVELOPMENTS AT THE PALESTINIAN ARENA SHOULD NEVER HAVE AN ADVERSE IMPACT ON THE SUFFERINGS OF THE PALESTINIAN PEOPLE AND SHOULD NEVER IMPEDE THE ARAB AND INTERNATIONAL EFFORTS FOR REALIZING THE PALESTINIAN-ISRAELI PEACE. AWAD SAID THE SAUDI-EGYPTIAN TALKS ALSO COVERED THE SITUATION AT THE LEBANESE ARENA, AND THE TWO LEADERS HAVE VOICED CONCERN AND ANXIETY OVER THE ESCALATION OF TENSION IN LEBANON. THEY HOPED THAT THE LEBANESE PEOPLE WOULD REACH A NATIONAL RECONCILIATION THROUGH A SERIOUS DIALOGUE WHICH TAKES INTO ACCOUNT THE HIGHER INTERESTS OF LEBANON. AWAD POINTED OUT THAT THE TALKS HAD ALSO INCLUDED THE SITUATION IN IRAQ, THE ARAB GULF REGION AND THE EXISTING DISPUTE BETWEEN IRAN AND THE WEST OVER THE IRANIAN NUCLEAR ISSUE IN ADDITION TO ISSUES PERTAINING TO THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE RESOLUTIONS ADOPTED BY RIYADH ARAB SUMMIT. HE NOTED THAT THE TALKS HAD INCLUDED MEANS FOR CLEARING THE ARAB ATMOSPHERE. --MORE
