Ahmadi, Kuwait, March 6, SPA-- Large quantities of natural gas have been discovered in Kuwait's northern energy fields, Energy Minister Sheikh Ahmed Fahd announced Monday, according to DPA. He also announced the discovery of an estimated 10 to 13 billion barrels of additional new light crude oil which will increase by almost 10 per cent the country's recorded reserves of some 99 billion barrels. "We can say now that Kuwait has entered the world of gas. We have found for the first time in Kuwait very encouraging quantities of 'free gas,'" Fahd told a press conference in the oil town of al- Ahmadi, some 45 kilometres south of the capital, Kuwait City. According to the results of initial tests on the gas found in the deep Jurassic horizons in five northern Kuwait fields "there is a potential for free gas in place of approximately 35-trillion standard cubic feet," the minister said.
