Dozens of political leaders, activists and students were arrested in Kathmandu Saturday as demonstrators defied government restrictive orders, witnesses said, according to DPA. Seven political parties organised the demonstration in protest against the goverment and against the municipal polls slated for February 8. The Kathmandu protest rally Saturday was said to be in place of the one planned for Friday but could not be held because of the imposition of a daytime curfew in the Nepalese capital. The police arrested the protestors Saturday as they tried to break a government order banning demonstrations in a number of places in the capital.
