India, which voted for reporting traditional ally Iran to the U.N. Security Council over Tehran's nuclear plans, said on Sunday it had not bowed to American pressure. In a surprise move, New Delhi backed fellow nuclear powers, the United States, France and Britain at the International Atomic Energy Agency's (IAEA) governing board meeting which passed a resolution against Iran despite threats by Tehran to begin enriching uranium and curbing IAEA inspections. Germany was also a key promoter of the resolution which was passed 22-1 with 12 abstentions on Saturday in Vienna. "There is no question of India having ranged itself on one side or the other," the Indian foreign ministry said in a statement on Sunday, according to a report of Reuters. It added that while New Delhi was keen for a consensus, it could not ignore the fact the resolution had majority support. "It should be noted that several non-aligned and developing countries, apart from India, have also voted in favour of the resolution."
