Rita weakened into a tropical storm on Saturday with maximum sustained winds of about 65 mph (120 kph), the U.S. National Hurricane Center said in its 2 p.m. EDT (1700 GMT) advisory according to Reuters. The storm's slow movement was expected to generate very heavy rains over the next few days, with rainfall totals of 10 to 15 inches (25-38 cm) possible across eastern Texas, western Louisiana and southern Arkansas, the center said.
