Twenty people were wounded, one seriously, on Sunday after an explosion in the main square of the Aegean tourist resort town of Cesme, the Anadolu news agency reported. The explosion appeared to have been caused by a bomb placed in a rubbish bin near a bank in the main square of Cesme. No one had claimed responsibilty for the blast, dpa reported. Two of those injured were foreign tourists, according to Izmir Governor Yusuf Ziya Goksu. "Everything is now under control and investigations have begun," Goksu said. Anadolu later reported that the two foreign tourists injured were Russian and British. One of those injured reported seeing two men, both around 25 years old, placing a black bag in the rubbish bin before the explosion. "I was sitting opposite the bin that exploded," Ramazan Mert told Anadolu. Two people came and left a black bag. About half an hour later the explosion occurred." Cesme is an especially popular getaway for residents of Izmir, around 30 kilometres to the east.
