Kingdom's Talents Shine with Two Awards in European Girls' Mathematical Olympiad
Published in Saudi Press Agency on 18 - 04 - 2023

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, represented by King Abdulaziz and his Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity "Mawhiba", and the Ministry of Education, won today two international medals in the European Girls' Mathematical Olympiad 2023 (EGMO), which is being held in Slovenia during the period from 13 to 19 April.
The Saudi talents have raised the Kingdom's medals to 26 in all editions of the EGMO, in which 213 students representing 55 countries are participating, throughout their participation in the Olympiad, continuing the Kingdom's achievements in international scientific competitions.
Saudi Arabia's student Jana Ali Saad Al-Dosari, from the Eastern Region Education Directorate, won a bronze medal, while student Fatimah Hassan Mohammed Bu Ali, from the Al-Ahsa Region Education Directorate, won a certificate of appreciation.
Mawhiba's Secretary-General, Dr. Amal bint Abdullah Al-Hazzaa, extended congratulations to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, for the achievement.
The Secretary-General stressed that such achievement embodies the integration between the institutions of the Kingdom, to advance its male and female talents to the highest levels of knowledge, through qualification and training, according to the latest international methods of caring for the talented.
Dr. Al-Hazaa praised the successful and distinguished cooperation and partnership between the Mawhiba, the Ministry of Education, and King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), which has resulted in achieving such success through an ambitious partnership.
She noted that such a partnership aims to build and enhance the Saudi human capital in line with the directives of the wise leadership and based on the National Transformation Program (NTP) and the Saudi Vision 2030 in empowering the human element and increasing its competitiveness in the labor market.
The Saudi team participating in the 2023 EGMO has undergone intensive training to develop the scientific skills of the female students, who were nominated to participate based on the results achieved in the training forums held by the Mawhiba in cooperation with its partners.
The EGMO is the European Open Championship in Mathematics for secondary school students. It was launched by the United Kingdom, which hosted the first edition in April 2012 with 19 participating countries, and eventually, the number quickly increased to 55 participating countries in Slovenia's edition.
The EGMO aims to motivate more female students to participate in national and international mathematics competitions and to increase their representation in the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO), where girls currently constitute only 10% of the participating students.
This is the Kingdom's 11th participation in this EGMO, as the Kingdom has achieved 2 gold medals, 6 silver medals, 12 bronze medals, and 6 certificates of appreciation.
The awards of the 2023 EGMO are scheduled to be distributed on Wednesday during a ceremony that will be held at 6:00 pm (Saudi Time).
