Published in Saudi Press Agency on 22 - 03 - 2023

Al Saudiya Channel, during Ramadan, is scheduled to broadcast a documentary on the second phase of the Prince Mohammed bin Salman Project for the Development of Historical Mosques through 30 episodes that shed light on 30 mosques in all 13 regions of the Kingdom.
The documentary reviews the urban identity of mosques and the mechanism for the revival of all their elements according to the uniqueness of each mosque. It will highlight the construction, restoration and development techniques. The television program will address the development project's methodology for making urban heritage a starting point for upgrading modern designs and an architectural reference for the Islamic architecture.
The documentary will highlight the second phase of the project through architectural documentation, study and design work for each mosque, and attention to details and features of architectural models, as well as the restoration of decorations and inscriptions characterized by the traditional architectural elements of historical mosques that reflect different patterns of architectural arts.
The documentary's second season will be broadcast daily throughout the holy month of Ramadan, five minutes before Al-Maghrib prayers, where the program sheds light on efforts in the restoration of historical mosques and their importance in promoting the preservation of the architectural style that characterizes each region of the Kingdom.
The second phase of the project covered 30 historic mosques across the Kingdom's 13 regions, including six mosques in Riyadh, five mosques in Makkah, four mosques in Madinah, three in Asir, two in each of the Eastern Region, Al-Jauf and Jazan, and one mosque in each of the Northern Borders Region, Tabuk, Al-Baha, Najran, Hail and Al-Qassim.
The Prince Mohammed bin Salman Project for the Development of Historical Mosques serves four strategic objectives: renovation of historical mosques for worship and prayer, restoration of the urban authenticity of historical mosques, highlighting the cultural dimension of Saudi Arabia, and enhancing the religious and cultural status of historical mosques. The project also contributed to highlighting the cultural and civilizational dimension of the Kingdom as one of the pillars of the Saudi Vision 2030 by preserving authentic urban characteristics and utilizing them to contribute to the development of modern mosque designs.
