The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as part of its wide humanitarian and aid efforts around the world, has contributed to supporting the educational sectors in the needy and affected countries, out of its belief in the importance of this sector in the development of peoples and countries and realizing decent living conditions for the human being.
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, through King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief), has implemented 90 humanitarian projects in the educational sector in more than 15 countries around the world ( including Yemen, Palestine, Syria, Pakistan, Lebanon, Afghanistan, Indonesia, Thailand, Somalia, Myanmar, Mali, Sudan, Iraq, Tanzania and Burkina Faso) with a total cost exceeding USD 200 million.
The KSrelief projects included supporting educational services in the targeted countries, renovating school infrastructure, securing operational costs of schools, offering study tools for students, building the capabilities of teachers, building the capabilities of specialists in protecting children in the psychological and social fields, supporting and rehabilitating parents through educational, awareness and professional programs, where the center's efforts also included supporting children with disabilities and literacy programs.
The KSrelief has held multiple partnerships with various UN, international and civil society organizations to support and implement projects concerned with the sector in the needy and affected countries, where top partners in this field include UNICEF, UNESC and the International Organization for Migration, where these partnerships included supporting the educational process under the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and ensuring its sustainability in disaster and conflict zones.
Yemen topped countries that received projects provided by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, represented by the KSrelief, to support the educational sector with 23 projects that targeted all Yemeni governorates without discrimination or exclusion with a value exceeding USD 120 million, while Palestine came second with 11 projects and a value of more than USD 41 million. KSrelief's efforts in supporting education included covering the overdue amounts of students of needy countries at Al-Madinah International University in Malaysia and the annual costs of orphan and the needy students at schools of the Islamic Sheikhdom of Albania.
The educational sector is one of 13 vital sectors that KSrelief supports in the underprivileged countries, where other sectors include the food security, health, shelter, accommodation, sanitation and protection, out of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's keenness to support underprivileged countries and peoples and offer them whatever that can alleviate their suffering.
