Saudi Press: Kingdom's Election to Prestigious International Organizations Reaffirms its Leading Roles in Global Arena
Published in Saudi Press Agency on 19 - 06 - 2021

Saudi newspapers have shed light in their editorials today on a number of issues at local, regional and international levels.
In an editorial titled, "Accumulated Expertise...Status and Influence," Al Eqtisadiah daily has highlighted the Kingdom's globally recognized status as a key regional and international player of leading and effective roles in the world's economy. The daily also highlighted the Kingdom's top rankings in international economic and financial indicators and its proven track record of successes, attributing the reasons to the Saudi Leadership's strategies and ongoing support which has had its significant contributions to strengthening the Kingdom's status and influence on the global economic arena.
As a proof of the Saudi influential roles and active involvement in the world's affairs, the newspaper cited the Kingdom's recent election to a titular membership of the World Labor Organization's (ILO) Governing Body and its membership in the G20. The newspaper has underlined that the Saudi active presence in various international organizations and bodies is "actually" based on the Kingdom's pivotal contributions and leading roles in the international decision-making process, citing the contributions of the Saudi Vision 2030 in opening new horizons for more international roles and providing the necessary tools to implement them.
Al Eqtisadiah daily also pointed out that the Kingdom's election to the ILO Governing Body is in itself a new achievement at the global level to be added to the Saudi record of success, which will allow the Saudi legislators to contribute with their colleagues within the council in setting, renewing or developing standards for laborers around the world, especially as the election of the Kingdom has come with the international organization witnessing massive developments brought on by the economic and social repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic, which are still persisting and require more intensified efforts to address and alleviate.
The daily also explained that the Saudi projects in this domain are plentiful and that the expertise exchange in this field would actually not only provide a developed strategy regarding work and workers, but also support the local Saudi efforts which are consistent with the projects of the Saudi Vision 2030. The Kingdom's membership in the ILO reaffirms its active role during its candidacy for a titular seat for the periods (1982, 1985, and 1998), the newspaper said.
The Kingdom's activity in the labor field is not new but based on a long-standing expertise, the newspaper said, adding that the election of the Kingdom to this important and prominent global position is in fact consistent with the Saudi expertise in dealing with international labor issues, in addition to the Leadership's ongoing support for all efforts aimed at supporting the labor market and workers in Saudi Arabia.
The daily concluded its editorial by pointing out to the Kingdom's internationally recognized quality approach in addressing the coronavirus consequences on the labor market and its active roles in handling labor issues during its presidency of the G20 summit in cooperation with other member states.
Al-Yaum Newspaper said, in its editorial titled, "Complementary Efforts to Protect the Society", that the Saudi domestic, regional and international policies and strategies are stemmed from its status as the land of mercy, equality and justice and home of Islam's two holy mosques, adding that the Kingdom, since its establishment until nowadays, has been adopting a deeply rooted approach to protect the social welfare and human rights and ensure the continuation of the national sustainable development endeavor.
As part of the Kingdom's anti-money laundering efforts through applying strict customs monitoring measures on the country's land, sea and air border crossings, the newspaper highlighted the success of the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority at Al-Bathaa in preventing an attempt to smuggle SR2,765,000 abroad, which was concealed inside the rear axles of the truck leaving the Kingdom.
The paper has also hailed the customs authorities' decision obliging all travelers entering or leaving Saudi Arabia, who carry any currency, monetary instruments, gold bullions or precious metals, stones or fine jewelry valued at SR60,000 or more, to declare them through Smartphone app or official website.
Al-Yaum Newspaper also explained that these measures, which also include a fine of 25% of the total value of the seized items in case of failure to declare them through official channels, will contribute to the national efforts to protect the national economy and the country's sustainable development endeavor.
