The "Scripts and Calligraphy: A Timeless Journey" exhibition, organized by the Ministry of Culture, begins receiving visitors from today until Saturday, 21 August 2021, at the National Museum in Riyadh. The exhibition will last for two months, featuring global master calligraphers and designers. During this period, the exhibition will present a creative journey of knowledge about the Arabic language and the development of calligraphy art, highlighting the artistic relationship between calligraphy, contemporary art and artificial intelligence. The various sections of the exhibition tell the story of Arabic calligraphy starting from the inception of Arabic writing in the Arabian Peninsula nearly 1700 years ago to the development stages of different scripts engraved on stone panels, manuscripts, calligraphy paintings and objects throughout the Islamic world since the first century AH/seventh century AD. The exhibition contains classic works of Arabic calligraphy and works by local and international calligraphy masters. The Ministry of Culture indicated that the exhibition is accessible to those who received 1 or 2 doses of the approved vaccines. This is in addition to showing the health status in the "Tawakkalna" application, wearing face masks and maintaining social distancing. These requirements are out of the ministry's compliance with preventive measures recommended by the competent health authorities against the spread of COVID-19. "Scripts and Calligraphy: A Timeless Journey" exhibition comes under the "Year of Arabic Calligraphy" initiative, one of the multiple initiatives implemented by the Ministry of Culture as part of the Quality of Life Program, one of the Saudi V ision 2030 programs, to celebrate Arabic calligraphy as a symbol of the Arab identity, a source of inspiration and an essential cultural element in the history of Arab civilization.
