U.S. stocks ended lower Wednesday, though the Standard & Poor's 500 hit an intraday record high. The Dow Jones industrial average fell 164.55, or 0.5 percent, to 33,829.38. The broader S&P 500 index was little changed, falling 3.54 to 4,183.18. The technology-heavy Nasdaq composite index fell 39.19, or 0.3 percent, to 14,051.03.
