Pakistan's prime minister said Tuesday he wants better relations with other Asian countries, including India, but also urged a resolution of the dispute over the Himalayan territory of Kashmir. "We are firm in our resolve to look for solutions of various conflicts around this globe and strive for stalling the emergence of new conflicts," Shaukat Aziz told lawmakers from more than 50 Asian countries meeting here to discuss how to enhance peace and cooperation. "It is our firm belief that the resolution of disputes in our region ....will mark the beginning of an era of peace, prosperity in Asia, enabling the countries to use their resources to mitigate the challenges of poverty, globalization and economic development." He said Pakistan wants "sustained" and "result-oriented" dialogue with New Delhi. Aziz told the 5th General Assembly of Association of Asian Parliaments for Peace, held amid tight security, that countries in the region are blessed with immense potential and resources that could be used for "collective development and prosperity." "Pakistan is fully committed to effectively contributing to define an international order which would guarantee peace, security and social justice," he said. The Asian lawmakers elected Chaudhry Ameer Hussain, speaker of Pakistan's lower house of Parliament as their new chairman. His name was proposed by the outgoing chairman, Philippine House Speaker Jose de Venecia.
