The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said in a statement published on its official website that the financial pledges announced during the virtual Yemen High-Level Pledging Event 2021, organized by Switzerland and Sweden in partnership with the United Nations, amounted to USD 1.67 billion. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia made the largest pledge of USD 430 million, followed by Germany with USD 244.80 million for the Yemen Humanitarian Fund, then the United Arab Emirates with USD 230 million, and the United States of America with USD 191 million, then the United Kingdom with USD 123.23 million, and the European Commission with USD 116.28 million. The conference aims to secure expenses of the relief operation and improve the humanitarian situation in Yemen, which is facing a humanitarian crisis, especially at the present time with the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19) and the Houthi escalation in Marib.
