Minister of Foreign Affairs Participates in Virtual Meeting of G5 Sahel States Alliance

His Highness Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, Minister of Foreign Affairs, participated today in the virtual meeting of the Sahel Alliance of the G5 Sahel countries, hosted by France, with the participation of Burkina Faso, Mali, Mauritania, Niger and Chad in addition to the European Union and other international partners.
During his participation in the meeting, His Highness the Minister of Foreign Affairs pointed out the importance of the topic discussed in the meeting, as it highlights an important part of the world that continues to be targeted by the scourge of terrorism and terrorist organizations, which are growing concern to the international community, and their boldness represents a threat to international peace and security.
His Highness stated that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has been at the forefront of global efforts to counter terrorism and combat extremism, explaining that the Kingdom believes in the importance of adopting a comprehensive approach based on international legitimacy, that can protect the lives of innocent people, and preserve the sovereignty, security and stability of states, and in this regard His Highness indicated that the Kingdom contributed $110 million US dollars to establish the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Centre, which provides important support to UN Members States, including in the Sahel.
His Highness also affirmed that, based on the Kingdom's historical partnership with members of the Coalition of Sahel Countries and its beliefs in the vital role of this group in combating terrorism is keen to provide support and technical assistance to the G5 Sahel in countering terrorism and its financing. In addition to that, His Highness, stressed out that the Kingdom will spare no effort in supporting all countries in their fight against the evils of terrorism and extremism.
The meeting was attended by His Excellency Minister of state for African affairs, Ahmed Abdul Aziz Kattan, and Deputy Minister for Multilateral International Affairs, Abdulrahman bin Ibrahim Al-Rassi.
