Mark Lowcock, the Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator affirmed here today that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) is the biggest donor to Yemen Response Plan, as it provided the plan with over $750 million last year and pledged to accord, in early April, another $500 million this year. He also praised the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's organizing, in partnership with the United Nations next Tuesday, the 2020 virtual Donors Conference for Yemen, which aims to raise awareness of the humanitarian crisis in Yemen and announcing financial pledges to meet the basic needs. Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, in a press statement to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) said that among 41 main programs sponsored by the UN, in Yemen, over 30 will be shut down, shortly within few coming weeks, if we fail to secure extra funds. He pointed out that relief organizations are still having access to the people, as there are a lot of staff on the ground and thousands of Yemeni relief workers, serving under the umbrella of the UN, Red Cross and other non-governmental organizations. he added that Yemen stands in need to $2.4 billion, in addition to another urgently needed $180 million, to combat novel Coronavirus, from now on until next December.
