U.S. stocks rose sharply in volatile trading Monday as Wall Street attempted to reduce massive losses incurred during the worst week since the 2008 financial crisis, amid fears of the coronavirus outbreak. The Dow Jones industrial average rose 1,294, or 5.1 percent, to 26,703.26. The broader Standard & Poor's 500 index rose 136.01, or 4.6 percent, to 3,090.23. The technology-heavy Nasdaq composite index rose 384.80, or 4.5 percent, to 8,952.17.
