The Joint Forces Command of the Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen: We Support Yemeni Government's Efforts to Confront Organized Crime Groups, Trafficking and Attempts to Undermine Security and Stability in (Al Mahrah) Governorate
A statement by the Official Spokesman of the Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen, COL Turki Al-Malki "Attempts by organized crime groups and traffickers in Al Mahrah Governorate are major security threats that undermine the efforts of the legitimate government of Yemen to promote security and stability in the Governorate. Some well-known personalities that head organized crime and trafficking groups attempted yesterday (Monday, 17 February 2020) to obstruct the efforts of the official security agencies to put a stop to smuggling operations in the Governorate. These personalities attempted to facilitate such aforementioned operations through violence and lethal force by targeting security units and Coalition forces in order to maintain their malicious and subversive activities. As a result, some injuries occurred within legitimate government security forces, as well as the undermining of public security and citizens' interest. Security agencies and Coalition forces were forced to undertake appropriate procedures, as required in this particular situation, for self defense and security preservation. The operation resulted in the confiscation of many weapons. The Joint Forces Command of the Coalition fully supports the efforts of the Yemeni legitimate government in confronting such illegal activities. There will be Zero tolerance toward any attempts to undermine security, stability and the efforts of the legitimate government and the Coalition to curb trafficking operations and organized crime groups activities."
