Published in Saudi Press Agency on 13 - 06 - 2019

H.E. Khalid A. Al-Falih, Saudi Arabia's Minister of Energy, Industry and Mineral Resources stated that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is monitoring with great concern reports about the terrorist attacks that targeted two tankers in the Gulf of Oman. His Excellency added that the Kingdom condemns such terrorist acts, especially in view of the attacks on Saudi vessels off the coast of UAE a month ago. He noted that one of the tankers was carrying methanol from Jubail.
H.E. Al-Falih asserted that the Kingdom would take all the measures it deems necessary to protect its ports and territorial waters, calling upon the international community to work with the Kingdom and take responsibility to protect the safety of global maritime navigation.
H.E. Al-Falih also said that the Ministry of Energy and Saudi Aramco have raised the level of readiness to deal with such aggressive terrorist acts, reaffirming Saudi Arabia's commitment to the reliable supply of oil to global markets. His Excellency affirmed the Kingdom's denunciation of all acts of aggression that threaten freedom of navigation, security of supplies and safety of environment. He called upon the international community to assume its joint responsibility and take firm action to secure maritime traffic in the region's waterways, in anticipation of the adverse consequences on energy markets and the danger that incidents such as this could pose to the global economy.
