The broad U.S. stock market traded higher Wednesday in light trading as major technology shares rebounded from steep losses earlier this week. However, the Dow industrials closed flat, erasing a 200-point surge. The Dow Jones industrial average was virtually unchanged, falling 0.95 to 24,464.69. The broader Standard & Poor's 500 index rose 8.04, or 0.3 percent, to 2,649.93. The technology-heavy Nasdaq composite index rose 63.43, or 0.9 percent, to 6,972.25.
