Governor of the Communications and Information Technology Commission (CITC) Abdulaziz bin Salem Al-Ruwais, is participating in the workings of the Telecom World 2018, inaugurated by the President of the Republic of South Africa, under the theme: "Innovation for a smarter digital evolution". The gathering, currently held, in Durban, South Africa, is organized by the International Telecommunication Union Information (ITU). "The Kingdom has identified three pillars that are consistent with the Vision of the Kingdom 2030 to be a leader in digital development, Al-Ruwais stated, pointing out that these pillars include promotion of infrastructure, creation of the digital environment, incubating minds and skills, and stimulation of the digital culture to build a pioneering generation, as the Internet has tripled in 2017, and the coverage of 4G networks has increased by 90%, while taking serious steps to enable the G5 generation technologies, by launching unique experiences, the first of its kind, in the Middle East and North Africa. He added that the Kingdom, according to the classification of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), is among the most mature countries, in the domain of regulation of the ICT sector. This is a result of the unlimited support of the wise leadership of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), he indicated, and as the telecommunications market, in the Kingdom, is the largest in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, with an expenditure exceeding $36 billion and the size of electronic commerce amount to $8 billion, noting that the number of Internet users, in the Kingdom exceeded 90% of the citizenry, male and female, alike.
