OIC Secretary General Calls on Int'l Community for Protecting Red Sea Maritime Navigation, Countering Al-Houthi Piracy
Published in Saudi Press Agency on 08 - 08 - 2018

Secretary General of Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Dr. Yusuf bin Ahmed Al-Othaimeen has urged the international community to act to ensure the necessary protection for international maritime navigation in the Red Sea and to counter Al-Houthi piracy.
In his opening statement at the Permanent Representatives' Meeting held at the headquarters of the OIC General Secretariat here today, at the request of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, to discuss Houthi militias' attacks on two Saudi oil tankers and their targeting of freedom of navigation and international trade in Bab al-Mandab Strait and the Red Sea, the Secretary General stated that "Al-Houthi group, which did not hesitate to target Makkah, the holiest place on the earth, also targeted two Saudi oil tankers in the Strait of Bab Al-Mandab in a series of terrorist acts against the territory of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, its interests and residents.
Dr. Al-Othaimeen affirmed the OIC's strong condemnation of the Houthi militias for targeting international navigation, causing harm to the interests of all world countries. He reaffirmed the OIC's support for and full solidarity with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the face of terrorism and its support for all the measures it takes to preserve its security, stability and territorial integrity.
