Yemeni government called on the UN Security Council (UNSC) here today, to exert more political pressure on the Iran-backed Houthi militias, the Emirates' official news agency WAM reported. Peace will not be achieved only by expressing support for the efforts of the UN envoy to start the national dialogue, but also with more political pressure on the Houthi militias, Ahmed Awadh bin Mubarak, Yemen's permanent representative to the UN said, as he was addressing the council, at an open meeting held on Yemen. The Yemeni government stressed that continued access of these militias to strategic areas, in Yemen, from which attacks on international shipping lines are being launched, requires a firm stand by the council, he added. The recent attack on the Saudi National Shipping Company's two tankers and planting of hundreds of naval mines targeting Yemeni ships as well as innocent fishermen, in addition to harming marine environment is just an example," bin Mubarak concluded.
