Al-Jubeir: Saudi Arabia is one of the UN establishing countries and is leading a pioneering role in its relations with the UN institutions

Adel bin Ahmad Al-Jubeir, Minister of Foreign Affairs, affirmed that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is one of the United Nations (UN) establishing countries and is leading a pioneering role in its relations with the institutions affiliated with the UN.
During a joint press conference held by Al-Jubeir with Secretary-General of the United Nations Antonio Guterres in Riyadh today, the Minister of Foreign Minister affirmed that he discussed with the UN Secretary-General the latest developments in the region, including finding a solution of the tragedy in Syria in accordance with Geneva 1 Declaration and the Security Council resolution no. 2254.
He added that they discussed the situations in Yemen and Libya in addition to Iran's negative interference in the regional affairs and the ways to support the Rohingya issue, adding that the two sides discussed the Kingdom's relationship with the United Nations in general and means of strengthening them in all fields.
Al-Jubeir pointed out that they discussed the issue of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), highlighting the Kingdom's recent support with $50 million announced by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud at 29th Arab Summit.
"In general, the Kingdom and the UN share an identical vision which is very positive," he said, adding that the United Nations has contributed to the development in the Kingdom.
The Foreign Minister added that the UN Secretary-General's visit to the Kingdom was not the first since he had visited the Kingdom and participated in the opening of the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Centre Advisory Board, which the Kingdom contributed to its establishment and support where a number of delegates and ambassadors attended this meeting.
"The UN Secretary-General met with the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and His Royal Highness the Crown Prince. The meetings were positive and dealt with the Kingdom's relationship with the United Nations," Al-Jubeir added.
For his part, the UN Secretary-General affirmed that this visit came to the opening of the Counter-Terrorism Center, pointing out that the center will not be effective without the Saudi support.
He said that the center aims to support the member states in developing their capabilities to combat terrorism and confront extremist ideology.
"I want to express my deep gratitude to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for its generous support to the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Centre, a support without which the Centre, would probably never have been able to be born," the UN Secretary-General said.
The UN Secretary-General highlighted the Kingdom's $500 million as a humanitarian support in Yemen in addition $50 million as a support for the UNRWA.
Antonio Guterres commended the cooperation between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Nations in many regional and international issues, stressing that this cooperation has become a fundamental principle of our work.
