The Permanent Representative of the United Arab Emirates to the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva, Obaid Salem Al Zaabi, said that his country joins international calls to respect the immediate truce and stresses that the Syrian people, which witnessed the most severe systematic targeting of civilians, to preserve the unity and territorial integrity of the Syrian territory. This came in the speech of the UAE before the 37th session of the Human Rights Council in the framework of the emergency debate on the situation in the eastern Ghouta, Syria. The UAE representative welcomed the convening of this urgent debate, expressing deep concern over the escalation of violence and its repercussions on the humanitarian situation and the safety of civilians in the eastern Ghouta region of Syria, despite the adoption by the Security Council of resolution 2401. Al-Za'abi pointed out that in view of this tragic situation, the UAE believes that the priorities of the United Nations and the international community at this time are to focus their efforts on lifting the siege imposed on civilians and to rescue the remaining inhabitants of Al-Ghouta by accelerating the opening of safe corridors for the exit of civilians from war zones.
